92 Points, Decanter

Bass Hill sits at roughly 600 feet elevation just outside the Van Duzer Corridor in the McMinnville AVA. This eight-acre, south-facing vineyard is planted in ancient marine sediment soils and farmed dry and own-rooted, producing naturally low yields and small berries with powerful tannins, concentration, and a brilliant backbone of acidity. A blend of 115, Pommard, and Wadenswil clones, each contributing their own character. We take a hands-off approach here, neither fining nor filtering, selecting only our favorite barrels each year to let the vineyard speak for itself.

The mild temperatures of 2019 allowed the Bass Hill fruit to hang longer than usual, with the oncoming October rainstorms ultimately prompting harvest on October 1st. The exceptional hang time, mild growing season, and reliably cool nights produced a wine of real concentration and generosity, with mouthwatering acidity. For this vintage we selected two barrels, one from the Wadenswil clone and one from Pommard.

Pairing and Serving Pairs well with roasted lamb, duck, mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 60 to 65 degrees F in a Burgundy-style glass. Drinking beautifully now and can be cellared through 2031.
