2021 Amity Vineyards Temperance Hill Pinot Noir
Eola-Amity AVA · 100% Pinot Noir · Dry · 750mL
Tasting Notes: Pomegranate, Orange Blossom, Forest Floor
Temperance Hill is one of the most storied vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills, resting atop a hilltop that was once the site of an ancient volcano. Thin topsoils give these own-rooted, dry-farmed, organically grown vines direct access to ancient volcanic soils, producing fruit with a truly unique sense of place. Legendary grower Dai Crisp has farmed this site since 1999. We take a hands-off approach to winemaking here, neither fining nor filtering, selecting only our favorite barrels each year to let the vineyard speak for itself.
The 2021 season was one of contrasts. Early warmth in April pushed bud break one to two weeks ahead of schedule, followed by temperature swings through spring and a late rain event around bloom that contributed to below-average yields. The season's defining moment came in late June when a historic heat dome brought three consecutive days of record-breaking temperatures across the Pacific Northwest. For established vineyards the timing ultimately proved manageable, and as harvest approached in August through October, temperatures cooled to ideal conditions, allowing the moderate crop to develop complex fresh fruit with retained acidity and focus.
Pairing and Serving Pairs well with roasted duck, lamb, earthy mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses. Serve at 60 to 65 degrees F in a Burgundy-style glass. Drinking well now and can be cellared through 2032.
